 History Enthusiast-Metal Detectorist - REQUEST
« Thread Started on Jul 14, 2009, 3:41pm »

Hello Everyone!

My name is Radek, I'm 30, and have very unusual hobby: I'm a metal detectorist.

All my friends are laughing, that I'm wasting my time on walking the fields, and trying to find stuff that was lost years, centuries ago.

But it never is about finding, it's about looking, investigating, searching for information, and most important about learning local history.

And if at the end of this path are some finds, than that's a bonus!

Now, let's make it clear. Most of the finds are some single coins, that aren/t really worth much, old buckles, buttons, occasionally some jewelery. But it never is worth much. At least not financially.

Of course it happens, that sometimes metal detectorist find something valuable and in that case we normally abide by a 50:50 share with the landowner.

The thrill is to find something, that can be identified, and than the research about the object. How old it is, what history lies behind it... Some finds are priceless, but only in historical meaning, and sometimes just for individuals.

And here is my request:

I'm looking for a contact with local farmers, as to do any metal detecting I need permission from the land owner.

So if you know someone, who owns the land with a long history, and would like to know if there are still some traces of it inside the soil, please tell him about some mad fellow that lives in Belfast, and would love to visit him.

Also want to assure you, that after my visit you will not find any traces of digging, I'm removing any metal objects I find, so nothing is going to be left on the surface - no danger for destruction of machinery working on the fields.

I have registered myself with the National Council of Metal Detecting ( http://www.ncmd.co.uk/ ) , and I abide to it's Code of Conduct ( http://www.ncmd.co.uk/code%20of%20conduct.htm ).

If you had any questions regarding metal detecting, please ask them here, or send me a Private Message.

I hope you will help me to develop my hobby!

Cheers
Radek
