James Hamilton Delargy ~ Glens of Antrim Historical Society
This article is taken from a lecture given to the Glens of Antrim Historical Society on Friday, 3rd April, 1981.
The man I commemorate tonight was one of yourselves – a man of these parts. He entered life here on the Antrim coast where, reputedly, the first man entered Ireland; he lived as a child in the Glens – but a child who “Knew the grace for light” 1; and he went forth to harvest the rich but fast perishing local tradition of simple Irish folk whose way of life had changed little over thousands of years.
James Hamilton Delargy was born in Cushendall on 26 May, 1899. His father died when he was only two and a few years later his mother brought him and his brother to live in Glenariffe.
