An alternative name is 'pecht', a corruption of Pict, a Celtic race which once inhabited parts of Scotland. It is now generally accepted that grogochs were originally half-human, half-fairy aborigines who came from Kintyre in Scotland to settle in Ireland. Grogochs are also to be found on the Isle of Man, where they are called 'phynnodderee'.
