Here's a fascinating thread on the songs of Kintyre, complete with loads of lyrics. Cheers Ptarmigan Kintyre Songs & Poetry

I am the guilty party who started that thread in 2006, and though that it would be a way of gathering as many local songs as possible into one place. It has indeed been succesful!
There was a strong tradition of local songs on my mother's side, the McShannons, and I still have quite a few to post on the Kintyre Forum.

Yes, it was an excellent idea.
I look forward to keeping an eye on that thread.
Cheers Ptarmigan

Here's a couple of links to some footage of The Wild Sarachs performing two songs featured on the Kintyre song thread. The songs are Nancy's Whisky and Flory Loynachan and were played at the launch of Angus Martin's booklet, Laggan Days celebrating the life of his late friend, Tarbert poet George Campbell Hay. The event was held in Machrihanish Village Hall towards the end of April 08. Due to technical constraints there was no PA but the sound seemed to carry well enough Nancy's Whisky uk.youtube.com/watch?v=oasp1wXavIo&feature=related Flory Loynachan uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-iWTEgfuoKQ&feature=related

Excellent work guys. Great to see/hear you all again. Seems ages since we played together! Can't wait for this bloomin' ferry to start rollin' again. Cheers Ptarmigan P.S. "technical constraints" eh? Reminds me of the time a film crew arrived out of the blue at our session in Wee Tom's, Ballycastle. They could only find an old round pin socket so once they changed their huge spotlight to a suitable plug, they plunged that into the socket & there was one almighty BANG & FLASH! ;D Mind you, the way things are going, we soon won't be able to afford electricity!

Thanks Ptarmigan - we're just as desperate for a tune over by! Did you like the guest canine appearance on Nancy's Whisky? Bit of a shock as we didn't even know he/she was in the hall!
